Deforestation is accelerating in Brazil
Specialists say that ranchers, miners and others seeking profit are tearing apart the Amazon forest, a protected region, rapidly. The reason behind that is the upcoming election for president - fear of losing and opportunity. Jair Bolsonaro (current president of Brazil) is known for being an ally to environmental law-breakers, but not for long because experts speculate him losing the re-election. In the first 12 days of September satellites recorded over 1600 fires in brazil forests which is a 3200% leap in comparison to the first 12 days of August when only 50 fires were spotted. Bolsonaro in an interview suggested that the fires were caused by natural events or by traditional communities. I personally think that such events pose massive threat to the global climate. When we deforest and burn down Amazon it starts releasing more carbon into the atmosphere, reducing rain and increasing the temperature not only in Brazil but in the entire world. Moreover deforestation is a direct threat to many animal species that could go extinct. On top of that we can't really do anything right now. The only thing we can do right now is hope that Bolsonaro doesn’t get elected and the new president starts fighting against deforestation.
Bolsonaro is a Brazilian Trump, but worse. Deforestation is just one of his sins. A horrible man!
