How to navigate using stars ?

When looking at the sky at night we can see around 6000 stars when there's no clouds. There are certain jobs that use stars as navigation one of them being boat captain. But how do they do it ? If you have a good eyesight it's actually pretty simple. First of all we need to remember that stars aren't static, they change their location as the earth revolves just like sun or moon. Some people think that using sun as navigation is corretct since it rises in East and sets in West but it isn't that simple. Earth is tilted so that happens only on the equinoxes( March 21st and September 21st) just twice a year. If you want to get an accurate navigation you need to pick a refference point that no matter the time of year it never changes its position. Last thing you need to know is  which hemisphere you are on (north or south) because you will see different stars. For the Northern Hemisphere the most popular and perfect star for navigation is The North Star ( a.k.a Polaris ), it's the brightest star in constellation Ursa Minor ( Little Dipper) right next to Ursa Major ( Big Dipper). It will always lead you straight north. When it comes to going south you need to find the constellation Orion , if you draw a line from his belt down it should lead you south. If you can't find any of the stars there is one more trick. Choose a bright star pick two sticks and align them with the star, wait some time for it to move. If it rose you are facing East, if it sank West, if it moved to the left North and to the right South.
