Van Gogh's Sunflowers

Van Gogh's painting called "Sunflowers" had soup thrown at it in the National Gallery on Friday. Two people identified as Anna Holland, 20 and Phoebe Plummer, 21 both wearing Just Stop Oil t-shirts at 11am threw a tin of tomato soup and glued their hands to the wall afterwards. Painting was covered by glass therefore wasn't damaged and returned to the gallery after six hours but the frame suffered minor damage. Police arrived on the scene rapidly and arrested activists for criminal damage and aggravated trespass. Both of them were later pleaded not guilty and realesed on bail because the value of damage was significantly below 5000 pounds. Lately damaging art as form of protests has been more popular than ever and in my opinion acts of vandalism like this make no sense. First of all most of these artists had nothing to do with climate change or whatever they are protesting about. Van Gogh himself probably never even heard about climate change in his life. Second thing is that trying to damage masterpieces is beyond moronic and ignorant and can be compared to destroying parts of history. Last but not least they get recognition for a day or two and then everyone forgets about it, if they want to make people aware of the problem they should think of a long lasting project that gets peoples attention all the time.
