TED Talk #5 Why are conspiracy theories so popular ?
Conspiracy theories are so popular because people want to know rational explanations of strange or bizzare happenings and they are very curious. For example the explanation for 9/11 is simple: terrorist attack aiming to weaken United States but some individuals looked closely on videos and photos and saw that the explosion comes from inside of the building and not the plane exploding by itself. This theory eventully got debunked by scientists. Another example of conspiracy theory is that moon landing was faked. It was year 1969 and most people didn't believe that we are already so technologically advanced to reach such distant place. Some people also said that it's fake because Neil A. spelled backwards says Alien. Ofcourse moon landing is true, you can literally watch people live as they are in space and if you have enough money you can go there by yourself. Both of these examples show how curious people are and how far they can go to explain stuff the other way.
I am not sure you've answered the question. You've given some examples of conspiracy theories but in what way are they more rational than what was offered by science at the time? And I can't see what all this has to do with curiosity.
